You=E2=80=99ve probably also seen the real Ever Pharma version =E2= =80=94 pre-mixed liquid in glass ampules from Austria =E2=80=94 and wondere= d why these two products look completely different, cost wildly different a= mounts, and ship through totally different channels. Here=E2=80=99s the short answer: those research-vendor powder vials almost = always aren=E2=80=99t actually Cerebrolysin. They=E2=80=99re Cerebroprotein= , which is a related but distinct product with its own approval pathway and= its own clinical research behind it. The community consensus has quietly drifted toward =E2=80=9CCerebroprotein = is just a cheap knockoff, don=E2=80=99t bother.=E2=80=9D That framing is wr= ong, and it=E2=80=99s costing the research community access to a legitimate= ly interesting compound class. This post walks through what Cerebroprotein = actually is, what the research shows, and why it deserves to be evaluated o= n its own merits. I already published a shorter primer on the topic =E2=80=94 this is the dee= per dive a lot of you have been asking for. What Each One Actually Is Cerebrolysin is a pig brain-derived peptide preparation made by Ever Pharma= in Austria. It=E2=80=99s been around since the 1970s and is the product be= hind virtually every Western clinical trial you=E2=80=99ve read about for s= troke, traumatic brain injury, vascular dementia, and Alzheimer=E2=80=99s. = It comes as a pre-mixed liquid in glass ampules and doesn=E2=80=99t need to= be reconstituted. Standardized concentration is 215.2 mg/mL. Cerebroprotein (sometimes called Cerebroprotein Hydrolysate, CH-I, CH-II, o= r in Asian markets CEGI / Ignotin) is a separate product made primarily in = China by established pharmaceutical companies including Hebei Zhitong Bioph= armaceutical and Guangdong Long Fu Pharmaceutical. It=E2=80=99s also a brai= n-derived peptide hydrolysate, but it uses a different manufacturing proces= s, which produces a slightly different peptide mixture. It comes as freeze-= dried powder in vials and needs to be reconstituted. Same general category. Different manufacturers. Different processes. Mechan= istically very similar. Not identical products. The Approval Most Researchers Don=E2=80=99t Know About Here=E2=80=99s the part most of the Western research community misses: Cere= broprotein is NMPA-approved in China. The NMPA (National Medical Products Administration) is China=E2=80=99s vers= ion of the FDA. Cerebroprotein hydrolysate has been used in Chinese hospita= ls for decades to support recovery from stroke, traumatic brain injury, dem= entia, memory loss, and attention issues. It went through its own regulator= y pathway. It has its own published clinical research. This is the part that changes the framing entirely. Cerebroprotein isn=E2= =80=99t a research-only knockoff. It=E2=80=99s a real pharmaceutical produc= t approved in one of the largest healthcare markets in the world. It just h= appens to be more accessible to researchers than Ever Pharma=E2=80=99s orig= inal. How Brain-Derived Peptides Work (Plain English) To understand why both products matter, you need to understand the basic me= chanism =E2=80=94 and it=E2=80=99s actually pretty intuitive. Your brain produces its own growth and repair signals. Two of the most impo= rtant ones are BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) and NGF (nerve grow= th factor). These act like maintenance crews =E2=80=94 they keep neurons al= ive, help them form new connections, and protect them when they=E2=80=99re = under stress. The problem: BDNF and NGF are large proteins. The end result is similar: suppor= t for neuron survival, support for new connections, and protection against = cellular stress. Both Cerebrolysin and Cerebroprotein work on this same principle. The pepti= de profiles aren=E2=80=99t identical, but they=E2=80=99re hitting the same = biological levers. What the Research Actually Shows for Cerebroprotein This is where Cerebroprotein has its own legitimate evidence base =E2=80=94= separate from the Cerebrolysin trials. Let=E2=80=99s walk through it. Protection against neuron death. CH-I (Cerebroprotein Hydrolysate-I) was st= udied in mouse models of vascular dementia, which is dementia caused by poo= r blood flow to the brain. CH-I reduced neuron death in the hippocampus =E2= =80=94 the brain=E2=80=99s memory center =E2=80=94 and improved learning an= d memory performance. The mechanism involves a survival signaling pathway c= alled PI3K/Akt, which essentially tells stressed neurons =E2=80=9Cdon=E2=80= =99t die yet=E2=80=9D and shuts down the cellular self-destruct sequence. Why I’m Wri= ting This

If you’ve spent any time around research p= eptide vendors, you’ve seen “Cerebrolysin” sold as a free= ze-dried powder in vials. You’ve probably also seen the real Ever Pha= rma version — pre-mixed liquid in glass ampules from Austria — = and wondered why these two products look completely different, cost wildly = different amounts, and ship through totally different channels.

Here’s the short answer: those research-vendor powder vial= s almost always aren’t actually Cerebrolysin. They’re Cerebroprotein, which is a related but distinct produc= t with its own approval pathway and its own clinical research behind it.

The community co= nsensus has quietly drifted toward “Cerebroprotein is just a cheap kn= ockoff, don’t bother.” That framing is wrong, and it’s co= sting the research community access to a legitimately interesting compound = class. This post walks through what Cerebroprotein actually is, what the re= search shows, and why it deserves to be evaluated on its own merits.

What Ea= ch One Actually Is

Cerebrolysin is = a pig brain-derived peptide preparation made by Ever Pharma in Austria. It&= #8217;s been around since the 1970s and is the product behind virtually eve= ry Western clinical trial you’ve read about for stroke, traumatic bra= in injury, vascular dementia, and Alzheimer’s. It comes as a pre-mixe= d liquid in glass ampules and doesn’t need to be reconstituted. Stand= ardized concentration is 215.2 mg/mL.

Cerebr= oprotein (sometimes called Cerebroprotein Hydrolysate, CH-I,= CH-II, or in Asian markets CEGI / Ignotin) is a separate product made prim= arily in China by established pharmaceutical companies including Hebei Zhit= ong Biopharmaceutical and Guangdong Long Fu Pharmaceutical. It’s also= a brain-derived peptide hydrolysate, but it uses a different manufacturing= process, which produces a slightly different peptide mixture. It comes as = freeze-dried powder in vials and needs to be reconstituted.

Same general category. Different manufacturers. Different processes= =2E Mechanistically very similar. Not=20= identical products.

The= Approval Most Researchers Don’t Know About

He= re’s the part most of the Western research community misses: <= strong>Cerebroprotein is NMPA-approved in China.

T= he NMPA (National Medical Products Administration) is China’s version= of the FDA. Cerebroprotein hydrolysate has been used in Chinese hospitals = for decades to support recovery from stroke, traumatic brain injury, dement= ia, memory loss, and attention issues. It went through its own regulatory p= athway. It has its own published clinical research.

This is= the part that changes the framing entirely. Cerebroprotein isn’t a r= esearch-only knockoff. It’s a real pharmaceutical product approved in= one of the largest healthcare markets in the world. It just happens to be = more accessible to researchers than Ever Pharma’s original.

How Brain-Derived Peptides Work (Plain English)

To = understand why both products matter, you need to understand the basic mecha= nism — and it’s actually pretty intuitive.

Your brain produces its own growth and repair signals. Two of the most im= portant ones are BDNF (brain-derived neurotro= phic factor) and NGF (nerve growth factor). T= hese act like maintenance crews — they keep neurons alive, help them = form new connections, and protect them when they’re under stress.

The problem: BDNF and NGF are large proteins. They can&= #8217;t cross the blood-brain barrier (the brain’s protective filter)= on their own, and they break down within minutes once they’re in cir= culation. Simply having more of them in the body doesn’t actually get= more of them into the brain.

Brain-derived peptide hydroly= sates solve this by breaking down brain tissue into very small peptide frag= ments — small enough to actually cross into the brain. Once there, th= ey don’t replace BDNF or NGF, but they mimic the signals those protei= ns send. The end result is similar: support for neuron survival, support fo= r new connections, and protection against cellular stress.

= Both Cerebrolysin and Cerebroprotein work on this same principle. The pepti= de profiles aren’t identical, but they’re hitting the same biol= ogical levers.

What the Research Actually Shows for Cerebro= protein

This is where Cerebroprotein has its own legitimat= e evidence base — separate from the Cerebrolysin trials. Let’s = walk through it.

Protection against neuron death. CH-I (Cerebroprotein Hydrolysate-I) was studied in mouse mode= ls of vascular dementia, which is dementia caused by poor blood flow to the= brain. CH-I reduced neuron death in the hippocampus — the brain̵= 7;s memory center — and improved learning and memory performance. The= mechanism involves a survival signaling pathway called PI3K/Akt, which ess= entially tells stressed neurons “don’t die yet” and shuts= down the cellular self-destruct sequence.

H= elping neurons grow new connections. CH-II was studied in PL= OS One in 2019. It protected brain cells from oxygen deprivation (the lab v= ersion of a stroke), reduced damage from oxidative stress, and promoted neu= rite outgrowth — the technical term for neurons growing new branches = and forming new connections. The authors specifically called CH-II a candid= ate worth advancing into early-phase Alzheimer’s trials.

Memory rescue in chemical amnesia models.= The same CH-II study showed memory improvements in mice given scopolamine,= a compound used to chemically impair memory in research. This is one of th= e standard tests for compounds with cognitive support potential, and CH-II = passed it convincingly.

Slowing Alzheimer= 217;s-related changes. A 2023 study in Frontiers in Pharmaco= logy used the standard genetic Alzheimer’s mouse model (APP/PS1 mice)= =2E Cerebroprotein hydrolysate slowed n= eurodegenerative changes through a pat= hway called ferroptosis — a relatively new and increasingly important= mechanism in Alzheimer’s research that involves iron-driven cell dam= age. This is one of the more mechanistically sophisticated pieces of work i= n the Cerebroprotein literature.

Repairing b= rain wiring after stroke. CH-I has been shown to protect whi= te matter (the brain’s wiring) and support axonal plasticity (the abi= lity of nerve fibers to adapt and repair) in late-stage post-stroke models.=

Pediatric clinical research.= Cerebroprotein hydrolysate has been studied in Chinese pediatric populatio= ns for developmental disorders, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, A= sperger syndrome, and Rett syndrome. Reported outcomes include improvements= in cognition, social skills, and motor function. This is one of the strong= est separate use cases for Cerebroprotein specifically — it’s n= ot just a Cerebrolysin substitute story.

The mechani= sms identified for Cerebroprotein heavily overlap with what’s seen fo= r Cerebrolysin: small peptides that get into the brain, support for neuron = survival, protection from oxidative stress, and support for new neural conn= ections.

The Practical Use Case for Cerebroprotein

This is where Cerebroprotein actually earns its place in the resea= rch community.

Stability. Freeze-dri= ed powder stored properly stays stable for 1-3 years. Cerebrolysin ampules = are pre-mixed liquid with a much tighter window once opened. For longer res= earch protocols, the powder format is just more practical.

Shipping. Freeze-dried powder doesn’t r= equire strict cold-chain shipping. Real Ever Pharma ampules coming into the= US through proper channels is rare and expensive. Cerebroprotein in powder= form is far easier to source through standard research vendors with COAs.<= /span>

Cost. Cerebroprotein is drama= tically cheaper per milligram than authentic Ever Pharma ampules. For multi= -month protocols, this adds up significantly.

Flexibility. With freeze-dried powder, you control the rec= onstitution and the working concentration. With ampules, you’re locke= d into pre-mixed volumes (1, 2, 5, or 10 mL) at a fixed 215.2 mg/mL.=

Real regulatory and clinical history. This isn’t an unstudied compound. It’s an NMPA-approved phar= maceutical product with peer-reviewed mechanism research and documented hos= pital use.

The Honest Caveats

Educa= tional means honest. Here’s what Cerebroprotein is NOT.

It’s not the exact product from the Western trials. The hundreds of Cerebrolysin clinical trials used Ever Pharma= 217;s specific proprietary product. You can’t assume Cerebroprotein r= eplicates every outcome 1:1.

Source quality = varies. “Cerebroprotein” is a product class with= multiple manufacturers. Quality and peptide content can vary, which is why= third-party COA verification matters.

Weste= rn researchers haven’t read most of the literature. Th= e strongest Cerebroprotein-specific research comes out of Chinese groups. I= t’s legitimate, peer-reviewed work — it just doesn’t show= up in the typical English-language reading list, so the evidence base feel= s thinner than it actually is.

Vendor labeli= ng is often confusing. Many research vendors label powder vi= als as “Cerebrolysin” when what they actually have is Cerebropr= otein. It matters that you know which one you’re working with.=

The clinical study amounts don’t carry over = directly. Cerebrolysin clinical research is reported in mL o= f pre-mixed liquid at 215.2 mg/mL. Cerebroprotein is in milligrams of freez= e-dried powder. You have to do a quick conversion — covered in the ne= xt section.

How to Convert Study mL Amounts to Your = Research Powder

Studies report Cerebrolysin amounts in mL = of pre-mixed liquid. Your research powder is in milligrams. Here’s th= e simple way to correlate the two.

The key number t= o memorize: Pharmaceutical Cerebrolysin =3D 215.2 mg/mL. Thi= s is the concentration used in virtually every clinical study.

The math:

  • Study mL × 215= =2E2 =3D mg equivalent

  • mg equivalent ÷ your concentration =3D your mL

Example using a real COA:

  • Vial co= ntains 2,264 mg

  • R= econstituted in 10.52 mL of bac water

  • Concentration: 2,264 ÷ 10.52 =3D 215.2 mg/mL (mat= ches pharma exactly)

Example study conver= sion:

  • Study used 5 mL/day → 5 × 215.2= =3D 1,076 mg equivalent

  • Study used 10 mL/day → 10 × 215.2 =3D 2,152 mg equivalen= t

  • Study used 30 m= L → 30 × 215.2 =3D 6,456 mg equivalent

That’s it. Always work from YOUR vial’s actual COA numbers, no= t just label claims.

Why Cerebroprotein Is Underrated

It has its own legitimate approval. NMPA approval in China = and decades of clinical use. Not a research-only compound — an actual= pharmaceutical product.

The mechanistic ove= rlap is real. Both products deliver small, brain-penetrant p= eptides hitting overlapping pathways. The peptide mixtures aren’t ide= ntical, but the biology they engage is.

The = Chinese research is real research. CH-I and CH-II have peer-= reviewed data published in international journals.

<= strong>The practical advantages are significant. Stability, = shipping, cost, flexibility — these aren’t minor. They’re= the reason most researchers can engage with this category at all.

What holds it back: it’s been i= ncorrectly framed as a knockoff for years; the strongest literature is in j= ournals English-only researchers don’t read; and vendor labeling conf= usion has made the whole category feel sketchy when the underlying product = is legitimate.

Final Thoughts

Cereb= roprotein gets dismissed because it doesn’t have a sexy origin story.= It’s not the “real” Ever Pharma product. It comes from C= hina. It’s labeled inconsistently across vendors. None of that is exc= iting.

What is exciting: it’s a legitimately approved= pharmaceutical product with its own clinical and preclinical evidence, hit= ting the same biological mechanisms as one of the most studied neurotrophic= compounds in the world, at a fraction of the cost and with much better sta= bility and shipping logistics.

If brain-derived peptide hyd= rolysates are interesting to you as a research category — and the mec= hanisms genuinely are — then Cerebroprotein deserves to be evaluated = on its own merits, not dismissed as a cheaper version of something else. It= ’s a different but related product, with its own approval, its own li= terature, and its own use case.

Whether the category transl= ates into long-term outcomes is a question more research will answer over t= ime. But the mechanisms, the existing safety data, and the multi-system eff= ects already make Cerebroprotein worth knowing about deeply.
