And because they all trace back to the same= gland =E2=80=94 the thymus =E2=80=94 most people assume they=E2=80=99re va= riations on a theme. They=E2=80=99re not. Each one operates through a distinct mechanism, at a different stage of imm= une function, with a different body of research behind it. One of them isn= =E2=80=99t really an immune peptide at all. Getting these confused doesn=E2= =80=99t just mean choosing the wrong tool =E2=80=94 it means potentially re= searching something entirely misaligned with the question you=E2=80=99re ac= tually asking. This piece is a full breakdown of all five: what they are, what the researc= h actually focuses on, how to differentiate them by target, and where they = do and don=E2=80=99t overlap First: Why the Thymus Before getting into individual peptides, it helps to understand why thymic = peptides exist as a research category in the first place.
