Social media is full of p= eople claiming they lost 7, 8, even 10 pounds in their first week on a GLP-1= . And on the flip side, people who stopped their GLP-1 and claim they =E2=80= =9Cgained 7 pounds of fat back=E2=80=9D in days. Both narratives are spreadi= ng fast, and both are doing real damage to people who are quietly comparing t= heir experience and wondering what=E2=80=99s wrong with them.

Nothing is wrong with them. The s= cale is just lying, and nobody is explaining why.

Let=E2=80=99= s fix that.

You Cannot Lose 7 Pounds of Fat in a Week

To lose one pound of actual body fat, you need to burn roughly 3,500 calori= es more than you consume. To lose 7 pounds of fat in 7 days, you=E2=80=99d n= eed a 24,500 calorie deficit in a single week =E2=80=94 that=E2=80=99s 3,500= calories per day. Unless something truly extraordinary is happening, that n= umber is physiologically impossible for the vast majority of people.

So what is actually happening on that scale? Water. Almost entirely w= ater.

The Carb-Water Connection Most People Don=E2=80=99t= Know About

Here=E2=80=99s the piece of educat= ion that changes everything. Your body stores carbohydrates as glycogen =E2=80= =94 essentially a fuel reserve kept in your muscles and liver for quick ener= gy. The critical detail is that glycogen does not store alone. Glycogen is s= tored in the liver, muscles, and fat cells in hydrated form =E2=80=94 three t= o four parts water for every part glycogen. What that means i= n plain English: for every gram of carbohydrate your body stores as fuel, it= holds onto roughly 3-4 grams of water alongside it. Each gram of glycogen i= s associated with 3-4 grams of water. As your body burns through reduced die= tary carbs and into glycogen stores, the water attached to the glycogen is l= ost as well =E2=80=94 resulting in what=E2=80=99s commonly known as losing w= ater weight. Run the math on so= meone eating a normal diet. The average person stores several hundred grams o= f glycogen at any given time. At a 3-4:1 water ratio, that=E2=80=99s easily 3= -7 pounds of water weight sitting in your body right now =E2=80=94 just from= carbohydrate storage alone. Add sodium into the mix, which also causes your= body to retain fluid, and the swings get even larger.

Wha= t Actually Happens When Someone Starts a GLP-1

GLP-1= compounds work by suppressing appetite, slowing gastric emptying, and impro= ving insulin sensitivity. The appetite suppression in particular is real and= meaningful =E2=80=94 most people naturally and significantly reduce how muc= h food they=E2=80=99re eating, often without even trying.

Her= e=E2=80=99s where it gets interesting. When someone starts a GLP-1 and their= appetite drops dramatically, a few things tend to happen at the same time:<= /p>

Carbohydrate intake drops significantly because they=E2=80=99r= e eating less overall
= Total food volume decreases, meaning less food mass sitting in the digestive= system

The Same Thing Happens in Reverse

Anyone who has done serious cutting and bulking phases in the gy= m already knows this intuitively. When you come off a cut and start eating m= ore =E2=80=94 especially more carbs and sodium =E2=80=94 the scale jumps fas= t. A 5-7 pound swing in a matter of days is completely normal and expected. I= t doesn=E2=80=99t mean you gained fat. It means your glycogen stores refille= d and brought water back with them.

The same thing happens wh= en someone stops a GLP-1. Their appetite returns, food intake increases, car= bs and sodium go back up, and glycogen refills. The scale goes up 5-7 pounds= in a week and social media screams that they =E2=80=9Cgained all the fat ba= ck.=E2=80=9D They didn=E2=80=99t. Their body just rehydrated.

Actual fat regain takes weeks and months of caloric surplus =E2=80=94 not d= ays.

So Does Any of This Mean GLP-1s Don=E2=80=99t Work?<= /strong>

Absolutely not. GLP-1 compounds are well-researched a= nd the fat loss over time is real and meaningful. The appetite suppression i= s genuine, the metabolic effects are genuine, and for many researchers the l= ong-term results are significant. The point isn=E2=80=99t to discredit the c= ompounds =E2=80=94 it=E2=80=99s to set realistic expectations so people don=E2= =80=99t get discouraged when their first week looks different from someone e= lse=E2=80=99s highlight reel.

Stop Comparing Your Research= Journey

This is the bottom line. Social media rewar= ds dramatic results and big numbers. Nobody posts =E2=80=9CI lost 1.2 pounds= this week, which is probably mostly fat.=E2=80=9D They post the week they d= ropped 8 pounds of water and call it a transformation.

Your p= rotocol is yours. Your starting point, your carb intake, your sodium habits,= your hydration =E2=80=94 all of it is different from the person you=E2=80=99= re comparing yourself to. A slower start on the scale doesn=E2=80=99t mean t= he compound isn=E2=80=99t working. It might just mean your body was already r= easonably hydrated and your diet was already reasonably clean.

Trust the process, give it time, and ignore the noise.
