Most vendors send one vial to a lab and call it a day.
Southern Aminos is now running full testing across 10 vials per batch — and closing in on a 6.5/7 score on the PeptidePrice.store testing standard. That’s not a small thing. Here’s exactly what that means for your research.
What Does “Full Peptide Testing” Actually Mean?
Every vial in a batch can vary. Contamination, underfilling, degradation — these don’t always show up in one sample. Testing across 10 vials gives you a real picture of batch consistency, not just a best-case snapshot.
Southern Aminos runs all of the following tests. Let’s break each one down.
The Tests — What They Are and Why They Matter
Identification Confirms that what’s in the vial is actually the peptide on the label. Uses spectroscopic or mass spectrometry methods to verify molecular identity. Without this, you have no guarantee the compound matches what was ordered.
Purity Analysis (HPLC) HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography) measures how much of the vial’s content is the target peptide vs. impurities, degradation products, or synthesis byproducts. A high-purity result means less junk, more active compound. This is one of the most important tests in the stack.
Net Content Screening Verifies that the vial actually contains the amount listed on the label. A vial labeled 5mg should have 5mg. Underfilling is a real problem in this space and this test catches it.
Bacterial Endotoxins Endotoxins are toxic byproducts of bacterial cell walls. They can be present even in a “sterile” solution and cause serious inflammatory responses in a research subject. This test confirms endotoxin levels are within safe thresholds.
Heavy Metal Tests Screens for contamination from metals like lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium — which can be introduced during synthesis or from equipment. These accumulate and are harmful at low concentrations. Most vendors skip this entirely.
Sterility Assurance (PCR-Based) Most vendors use traditional culture-based sterility testing — you take a sample, put it in a growth medium, and wait to see if anything grows.
Southern Aminos is using PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) for sterility testing. PCR is a molecular method that detects the DNA or RNA of bacteria, fungi, and other contaminants directly, without waiting for them to grow in a culture. It’s a different methodology than the culture-based approach and operates on a faster timeline.
Worth noting: PCR-based sterility is not currently a recognized compendial standard in the way USP 71 is — meaning it sits outside the traditional pharmaceutical testing framework that the PeptidePrice.store scoring system is built around. I’ll have more context on ILS Laboratories, the lab Southern Aminos is now using, in a follow-up piece.
Peptide Content / Peptide Analysis Goes beyond purity to confirm the actual peptide content by weight. Distinguishes between peptide mass and total product mass (which can include water, salts, or excipients). Critical for accurate dosing calculations.
Why 10 Vials + 5 Vial Conformity?
The 10-vial testing means every test above is run across a statistically meaningful sample of the batch — not just a single cherry-picked vial.
The 5-vial conformity layer adds a cross-batch consistency check: multiple vials are compared against each other to confirm uniformity. If one vial in a batch has a problem, this structure is designed to catch it.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
The batch referenced here is the first to go through this full testing standard. Southern Aminos has committed to implementing it on all batches going forward. Testing was conducted through ILS Laboratories — a lab new to this space. I’ll be putting out more information on them separately.
